What is a quilt?

A quilt is like a warm blanket. It has three layers:
1. the back, which is usually a whole piece of cloth.
2. the middle, which is a piece of warm batting like fluffy cotton.
3. the top, which is usually many piece of cloth pieced together in a lovely pattern.

The quilt pieces, above, are all fabrics from all over the world, representing countries where Mennonite volunteers work to bring peace and improve health and education.

What is a signature quilt?

My Mother-in-law's mother invited her friends to sign pieces of fabric and then embroider their signatures. She gathered more than a hundred of these friendship pieces together to make a friendship quilt called a signature quilt.  Here is a sampling of the names. We are trying to determine who each person is, their relationship to Effie, and any memories that any of have of these people.
